  About the Department:
The Department of History was introduced as a Pass Course subject for the students in the year 1998, When the college 'Surya Sen Mahavidyalaya' was established. The growing interest and the demand of the students in the subject led to the introduction of Honours in B.A. Course in the year 2008. Although started with few number of teachers, currently the department has 2 Substantive Assistant Professors with Ph.D. and two State Aided College Teachers and one Assistant Professor (Management Post). Many students have completed their M.A. and doing well in their professional lives. With the introduction of CBCS system and the Semester mode of examination in place of 1+1+1 system in the academic year 2018-2019, the percentage acquired by the students in the Honours are mention worthy. NEP is introduced in the academic year 2023. Teachers cooperate with the students in guiding and counselling them through Mentor-Mentee Programme meant for students who need extra guidance in the subject matter. The department organise student centric seminars, invited lectures, faculty exchange programme, Workshop, Poster Exhibition and Competition, Museum Visit, Monthly Test, etc. to make learning more interesting and dynamic.
